Frequently Asked Questions

Are you open 7 days a week?

Yes. We operate on a limited capacity on Sunday and Monday; the center is open for pick up and drop off only. A certified instructor is on site 5 days a week. All services are by appointment only.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Visa and MasterCard. Payment is due when dropping off your dog.

How far in advance do I need to reserve for daycare and boarding?

Kennels are booked on a first come, first served basis. To avoid disappointment, book your daycare spot several days in advance or request a month-in-advance scheduling form.

How do we get started with daycare and boarding?

The first step is to contact us for more information and to book a tour. Call us at 604-851-6076 or 604-751-2514.

What vaccines are required for my dog?

All dogs must have bordatella updated every six months to stay at The Doghouse for daycare or boarding and it must be given 2 weeks before they are dropped off (or before expiry). In addition, all dogs must be vaccinated against distemper, parvovirus, and rabies. We recommend dogs have regular flea and de-worming treatments.

What happens if I am late picking up my dog?

Please call and let us know as soon as possible. For overnight stays an extra day will be charged.

What happens if I make a reservation and fail to keep it?

Please let us know as soon as your plans change so we can accommodate other dogs.

What do you do if a fight starts?

It doesn’t generally happen as playmates are carefully matched during a 15 minute introduction at which time the compatibility of the dogs is observed by a professional trainer.

What should I bring for my dog when dropping him/her off for boarding?

A comfort item from home, such as a blanket or toy, and a flat collar. No tennis balls or choke chains please.

What happens if my dog runs out of food during boarding?

If a dog’s food runs out while boarding it will be bought (if identifiable) and charged to the owner. Otherwise they will be given our food which is supplied courtesy of Royal Canin.

"...Working in the Doghouse program connected me to dogs who shared the same kind of brokenness I was feeling. There was one shelter dog specifically who stayed with us for five months in the institution. He was high need, aggressive and afraid. I could relate to him so deeply. I imagined that he was feeling displaced and afraid, and acting out because he had learned what was required for survival. As he was rehabilitated, so was I..."
